About
The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federally funded initiative administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). Its purpose is to ensure that eligible children and adults in qualifying non-residential care facilities receive nutritious meals. Approved facilities include child care centers, family day care homes, after-school programs, emergency shelters, and adult day care centers. CACFP achieves its mission by reimbursing approved caregivers for meals and snacks served to participants. While FNS sets program regulations and policies, state agencies manage administration at the state level and provide support to local sponsors.
