School Nutrition Specialist
JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: SCHOOL NUTRITION SPECIALIST
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Employee assists in developing plans and procedures for carrying out the established
philosophy and policies of the School Nutrition Program. The employee assists in the menu
planning, development, procurement, and coordination to ensure program compliance. Assists
the Director in developing and implementing professional growth opportunities for staff by
providing appropriate training activities and providing direct oversight of the School Nutrition
Managers.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Two years of School Nutrition experience.
2. A.A.S. Degree in Business Management or other related fields.
3. Competently use or learn to use a variety of computer and Media applications including
Microsoft Word, Excel, Works, as well as the Café Enterprise Software System.
4. Communicates well with parents, school and program staff, vendors, and the public.
5. Obtain ServSafe Certification.
6. Works independently or as a part of a team (self-motivated).
7. Moves cases/bags of food and equipment up to 35 lbs.
8. Be able to use both hands to lift above shoulder height.

Program Director of School Nutrition Programs
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Projects a positive image of the BVPS School Nutrition Department at all times.
2. Keeps information confidential concerning school business and student information.
3. Acts in a professional manner at all times.
4. Knows, understands, and assists in implementing the requirements of the School Nutrition
Program.
5. Promotes the School Nutrition Program by educating Students, Parents, Staff,
Administrators, Board Members, and the General Public in the operating requirements of
the Program.
6. Coordinates educational activities with school staff, administrators, and outside
collaborating agencies to promote nutrition awareness.
7. Assists in menu planning and recipe development and procurement to ensure that all
meals served to meet USDA standards and are nutritional and appetizing.
8. Help with the development of monthly menus for students and post menus on the
website for convenient access.
9. Monitor food production and service to assure that planned menus are followed and that
substitutions comply with regulations.
10. Serve as a representative on the CO-OP team and work with other CO-OP members and
vendors to evaluate the price and quality of food and supplies.
11. Develop measures for sampling and evaluating foods and supplies in the District.
12. Order USDA-donated foods when available and assure the proper use in accordance with
government regulations.
13. Supervise the receiving, storage, delivery, and recordkeeping of USDA Donated Foods and
ensure that foods are used in a timely manner.
14. Evaluate meal costs and recommend changes as appropriate.
15. Assist the Director in planning and conducting staff meetings and workshops for the School
Nutrition personnel.
16. Participates in hiring and evaluating employees.
17. Assists the Director in developing and implementing professional growth and certification
activities for staff by providing appropriate training activities.
18. Plans and conducts new employee orientation.
19. Interprets personnel policies and procedures to school managers and staff.
20. Provides direct assistance to the School Nutrition Managers. Provides on-the-job training
in work scheduling, equipment use and care, food production, nutrition, sanitation,
storage, recordkeeping, nutrition education, procurement, and human relations.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As per statement of employment for non-certificated personnel.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and
regulations on evaluation of personnel.
